4 more dives on friday…one tomorrow early am, then we’re renting cars to explore the island

Thursday’s afternoon dive was the best yet. We saw 2 Hawksbill turtles, I followed one to surface then the baby returned to the bottom, started chowing down on a piece of coral. then a queen anglefish starting coming in for scraps. We all sat and watched them work on it for a while, got a neat video i’ll get up later of my dad hand feeding a chunk of coral to the turtle.

great morning dives. Here are 2 of the 15 year olds on the trip…playing air guitar and drums.

2 morning dives, afternoon, plus a 9pm night dive…needless to say i slept very well after a few cold beers. Saw several tarpon, spanish lobsters, a big crab & a really neat cuttlefish ( or squid, i’m not sure).

Great dives this morning off the small, protected island of Klein Bonaire. Here are some of the highlights…finally getting the hang of my new Ikelite strobe rig. Hope to try the double setup tomorrow.

Headed downtown with dad & robert monday afternoon. Dutch Architecture is really neat, people are very friendly. Found a liquor store…and bought some beer & rum! The local beers here are all 8-9 ounces…and $2-3…guess they like to drink in moderation. I’ll have to remember the smaller amount when counting cans!
Had some really good conch chowder for dinner, then we made a night dive out front of the hotel. This 4 ft tarpon was all around us for ~20min. I tried to get some shots when he came close but it was fast…got some neat video i’ll post later.
We had a couple rum drinks with fresh local limes and ginger before hittin the sack hard.

Great start to the trip…incredible boat dives this am where we saw a seahorse. Shore dives in front of hotel on Sunday were really neat. Nice Barracuda was hanging out in the middle of a huge bait ball. Had fun swimming thru the wall of fish and snapped a few photos…this one is low light but you can see the impact of the the scene.

I’m traveling to the Island of Bonaire this Saturday for 8 days. We will be diving and I hope to get in some bonefishing on the flats. We’re staying at the Divi Flamingo Dive Resort right near the capital city of Kralendijk. Bonaire is located just north of Venezuela and is part of the Netherlands Antilles

I hope to post a series of blogs on my daily adventures…depends on web access.
